Star Citizen System Requirements Best Experience

Star Citizen System Requirements are very important and before you jump into the ‘verse, let’s talk system specs. This is a hotly contested topic within the community so there will always be opinions about what is “best.”

Star Citizen is an unoptimized beast, and getting the best performance requires the proper hardware. So, let’s breakdown the recommended and minimum system requirements you need to know!

The following information is taken directly from the Roberts Space Industries website:

Star Citizen System Requirements for Minimum Specs:

  • OS: Windows 10 (Latest Service Pack)
  • CPU: Quad-core, like an Intel Sandy Bridge or AMD Bulldozer
  • RAM: 16GB RAM
  • GPU: DirectX 11.1 compatible with 3GB VRAM
  • Storage: 83+GB
  • OS: Windows 10 (Latest Service Pack) / Windows 11
  • CPU: Intel 6th Gen or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 series.
  • RAM: 32GB
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 3060 or AMD RX 6700 XT
  • Storage: 1TB SSD (if possible an NVME drive)

However, even with a more powerful system, you will still experience lower FPS when in the major cities like Area 18, Lorville, and New Babbage than when you’re out in space or planetside which is due to many variables.

My personal thoughts are that your PC should be using AT LEAST an Intel 10th Gen OR AMD Ryzen 5 5000-series CPU, with 32GB of RAM and a NVME SSD drive. If you are playing at 1080p, then you can get by with the GPUs listed in the “Recommended Specs” section.

Star Citizen is more CPU intensive than GPU but as you go up in resolution (1080p > 1440p > 4k) – the GPU will come more into play. As you can see, the Star Citizen system requirements are demanding but this game is beautiful and will only get better as RSI improves the engine and game optimizations.

Here are My Current PC Specs for Star Citizen:

  • OS: Windows 11
  • CPU: Intel 13600k
  • RAM: 32GB
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 3090 FTW3
  • Storage: 1TB SSD NVME Gen4 drive

With these system specs, I am seeing roughly 55 (+/-) FPS in the major cities and 75+ FPS when I’m in flying in space or on a planet. The gameplay is quite smooth but I still experience bouts of lag/stutter depending on the server health.

Remember, citizens: These Star Citizen system requirements are just guidelines! Tweak and adjust based on your budget and desired performance.
